A bad week and a good week.

First off, I'm sorry it's been two weeks since my last update. During the first week in Feb. two things happened. Work was extremely busy and my body told me I had done enough running for a while. A few people had told me that during training, you should listen to your body. Well, I listened. I was so tired all week and the few runs I did get in, weren't very good. So I took it as a sign I needed some additional rest. So the long run was cancelled and i spent most of the week just recovering.

This week was a different story. It turned out to be my longest mileage week so far. I ran three midweek runs of 3, 4, and 8 miles. Today, I also put in my longest single run, 18 miles. I guess the rest last week helped because I felt great on all the runs and other than some sore quads, no injuries. I had only planned on going 16 today but felt strong so I just kept going. It was a Dana Farber team run so that also makes the run much easier.

Many people have also been asking me what my goals are for the marathon itself. So here you go:

Get to the starting line healty
Finish
Have fun
Finish strong
Finish in under 5 hours

I'm sure these goals will change but that's how I feel today.

I'm figure I'm about 4-5 weeks ahead in the training. This will allow me to get in some additional long runs. Right now is probably the most challenging time of the training. I'm deep into the long runs so the mileage is pretty high but I'm not close enough to get excited about the race itself.

Don't forget to support me in the fight against cancer. Donations can be made at www.rundfmc.org/waydem2009.

  1. Awesome, Wayde. Good for you, listening to the body. And you've got a great priority in your goals. You're at 18 with two months to go? Fantastic, you are ahead! We're behind you all the way. We'll see if we can scare up some more money to throw your way. -- Chris
